Gasshuku reactions from participants
1-6-2009
Snap shots out of the reactions of the participants :
1) It was the perfect combination of sweat, exertion, learning, and laughter. What a truly exceptional group of people we have here. It was good to finally meet and put faces to many of the names. The hospitality is greatly appreciated and the enthusiasm for KU is inspirational.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and training with you. I was quite impressed with the quality of the karate I saw. KU is strong in Europe!
2) I just wanted to thank everyone concerned with the EU gasshuku for making it, again, a memorable experience. Particularly of course for teaching us, for the organization and of course Hanshi for making it all possible in the first place, but also to everyone who participated. It was a great atmosphere and superb training. I returned home more enthusiastic than ever.
3) What a week we had in Veldhoven at the EU Gasshuku! And what an honor to be invited to teach at an event like this! First of all, thanks to Hanshi for making it all possible, and for teaching and guiding me on this never ending road. Your contribution to the martial arts community will always be remembered! Thanks to the shidoin of the Netherlands: Huub, Jan and Bert for arranging the event. You did a great job bringing all these like minded people together! I can't think of a better dojo for an event like this, so thanks Jan for providing the facilities.
We've come a long way since the 90's. It was great to step back and watch the performance by the participants. Nice entries, precise joint locks and strangulations, smooth take downs, highly functional ground work etc. Those are things you don't see in the average karate dojo, or average karate style for that matter.
4) just two days passed by, but I already miss the gasshuku

. I like to thank all Sensei and participants for the great time in the Netherlands!
5) I would also like to extend my gratitude to everyone involved in the gasshuku. Thank you for organising everything and for creating such a nice atmosphere which made the gasshuku not only a great training opportunity but also a very nice social event as well. All sensei for your tireless support in answering all questions, resolving ambiguity and correcting mistakes is truly invaluable. For those of us who do not have the privilege of regular KU-instruction these events become even more important as the loose ends and misunderstandings can finally be ironed out making the understanding deeper.
6) Also want to say thank you for this great gasshaku in the NL. The hospitality was great and I think everthing was well organized.
thumbs up! Of course the renshis did an outstanding job... but hey they are renshis. What else can you expect? ;-)
7) It was a great honor for me to teach at the european gasshuku 2009 on behalf of sensei McCarthy. Sensei, thank you very much for your confidence in me. I just arrived back and still need to let all the impressions sink a little, but wanted to share a few lines about the last few days. ... This gasshuku was, as far as I am concerned, a great event, although sensei McCarthy was clearly missed and hopefully, will be back for next year's gasshuku in Europe.
First of all this great success was achieved by the hard work of the team from the Koryu honbu dojo of the Netherlands (sensei Jan Kraayvanger, sensei Bert Mollen and sensei Huub Meijer) before, during and after the actual gasshuku. Thank you! Your hospitality, smooth organisation and help as well as the facility(!) were outstanding.
Another huge factor for the success of an event like this are of course the participants. Well, there were people from all over Europe, Kenia and North America. Everybody who has been there contributed to an excellent and very supportive learning athmosphere by using critical analysis, showing enthusiasm and great will power. Everyone of you: Thank you very much for your patience and dedication. It was very impressive to see so many like minded enthusiasts working together towards a better understanding of KU.
I wish us all the best of preparation (meeting enough oportunities) in further cultivating and increasing the KU family ...Everybody who couldn't make it, you've clearly missed something!!! Everybody who has been there, I hope to see you all again next year!
8) Congratulations to Shidoin's Jan, Bert and Huub for having hosted the 2nd European Gasshuku in the Netherlands. Thanks for your hard work and efforts in making this event the success it was.
With a 7 hours a day training schedule the purpose of the Gasshuku was clearly to train hard and do lots of it, making maximum use of the opportunity to work under the invaluable guidance of Renshi's Olaf and Ante as well as Darrin-san and Cody-san who were so kind to fly all the way to our very own Veldhoven to support the event and throw in a fair deal of high skilled technique/teaching themselves.
Finally, great to meet so many of you and look forward seeing you all soon at the next available opportunity.
9) I'd also would like to thank Jan-, Bert- and Huub-san (and all the helping hands behind/them) for the perfect organization of the 2nd european gasshuku. As a relatively new member of the KU, this was my first KU gasshuku experience - well incredible. We were able to train under the guidance of four outstanding teachers, although sometimes i felt "lost in space", 'cause of all the details to keep an eye on. It was more than a great experience to train and for sure meeting all of you (some not for the first time) in such a great atmosphere.
Hope to meet all of you again soon.
10) Thank you for a great Gasshuku, well organized, nice surroundings, great training and most important great people. I know it takes a lot to arrange a seminar or a gasshuku like this and I highly appreciate all the hard work you all put in to it. I am looking forward seeing you again and with a better back next time.
