European Gasshuku 2009
1-6-2009
Dear all,
The European Gasshuku was a great success. Because of the high quality instruction and the enthusiastic hard work of the participants it was an event that will not be forgotten. Participants from Kenia, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Canada, USA, England, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands did make it a truly international Gasshuku.
The opening evening on wednesday 20/5 was a good start with Muchimi di (sticky hands). On the next day's we worked through the curriculum of Koryu Uchinadi, both the futari geiko (2-person) drills as well as the solo representation (kata). In the afternoon there were sessions both on groundwork (ne-waza) and Yamane-ryu Kobudo (Sai, Bo, Tonfa, Kama). In total around 30 training hours, let alone the additional work in the evening and the seminar on Sunday.
It was fantastic to see that the level of KU has increased enormously in the last years. Many people are really touched and inspired by the geniality of the curriculum and the simplicity of its applications. This is the first motivator to make it a success. The second motivator (Practice) is no problem, shown by the hard work and energy that the people did put in their exercises. The 3rd Persistence is demonstrated by the fact that people from all over the world did join. And that people want to make an effort to learn and master the techniques, insights, applications and fun that goes with Koryu uchinadi.
I hope we will be able to build on this great event and give Koryu Uchinadi the place it deserves in the Martial Arts.
See you soon.
